Seen at Area 51 - Monday, May 16, 2016
First time out of Bill Hoelcher's Skunk Works was yet another sub-SUAS class ALES machine.
This model is incredible!
Not only is it under the FAA limit of 250 grams (8.82 ounces) for SUASs, it sports a 72 inch wingspan and carbon fiber tail-boom. It's direct drive brushless motor pulls it with authority and easily makes altitude in well under 30 seconds.
Spotters who seen it fly were heard saying things like: "That is not fair", "It should be declared illegal" and "I think we need to process the model to make sure it is under the weight limit". Just kidding Bill, but it does fly great and goes up in the slightest thermal. Nice sailplane Bill!
