Welcome to MOSS!

The Mid Ohio Soaring Society (MOSS) is a loose knit group of model airplane enthusiasts who gather at various sites in and around central Ohio to fly sailplanes.

We predominantly fly electric launched Thermal Duration (TD) sailplanes, but our members also fly winch launched TD sailplanes, hand launched sailplanes (DLG), as well as slope sailplanes. We also enjoy Electric Park Flyers at our home fields (See Field Rules).

While most of our gatherings are informal fun flies, we typically sponsor and participate in a series of Altitude Limited Electric Soaring (ALES) and F5J events during the flying season. Please see our schedule. Participation is open to all AMA registered pilots!

We welcome new members

TALES is now 2-Meter!

We liked it so much we are doing it twice this year.

Planes: F3RES (F3L) construction limitations with or without motor, All 2 meter foam planes also OK, old school woody 2 meters OK as long as they are all wood or meet the F3RES construction limitations.

Mixed launch: motor or high start. Bring your own high start. High start limited to 115 meters, un-stretched, any combo of line and rubber ok.

ALES like event: 100 meter launch height. Note High start limitations Landing: 3 meter radius circle. in or out for 50 bonus points. F3RES landing rules otherwise.

Specifics for the May 15th, 2024 contest.

F5J for 2024

MOSS has dropped F5J Lite contest rules. It's a regular F5J contest with a few minor changes. While we will have a PA system, we may not always have a timer board. The CD is also authorized to make other changes for contest convenience as required.

We do not fly Quad Copters, Helicopters, Cameras
or Gas fueled aircraft.
